MARGAO: The Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat gram sabha on Sunday witnessed a heated debate over the hot mixing of village roads with gram sabha members questioning how some private roads had been tarred and the road from Mazilwado and Bondaria in the village which had been tendered at the cost of over Rs 8 lakh had been left unattended.
Although the sarpanch tried to state that the other roads had been only been repaired using premix, a villager Wilson Viegas pointed that according to information received by him, the Executive Engineer Vijay Madolkar has informed that no roads in the village have been premixed. The gram sabha also witnessed debate on power problem faced by the villagers and also over the poor maintenance of power supply lines with wires dangling and posing danger to general public and children in particular.
A heated debate was witnessed between panchayat member Jose Bernado Rebelo and Sarpanch Oslarico Rodrigues over the issue of local MLA Benjamin D’Silva holding meeting in the village wards to discuss development.
Panch member Domnick Noronha demanded the resignation of the Sarpanch Rodrigues accusing him of being biased. He claimed that the sarpanch was a hindrance in communication between the local MLA and the panchayat members and accused the sarpanch of not carrying development in the wards of members opposing him.
Meanwhile, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, who addressed the gram sabha, requested the panchayat members to keep personnel differences behind and work for the development of village. He promised to streamline power supply to the village in the next six months, saying tenders amounting to Rs 3 crore have been floated to take up the work in the entire constituency.
