PONDA/PANJIM: Heavy rainfall along with lightning, thunder and stormy winds dampened the Diwali (Laxmi Poojan) festival spirit in Ponda.

Tree falling incidents were also reported. “Lightning led to damage of a transformer,” said an Executive Engineer of Ponda Electricity Department, at Curti Power Sub-Station.
He said following lightning incidents at 3.30 pm, three power feeders at Durbhat, Upper Bazaar and Farmagudi supplying power to various areas including Ponda town were affected with some parts of Ponda remaining in darkness till late evening.
The tree falling incidents due to stormy winds on the power lines also disrupted power supply.
The Ponda Fire Station personnel said they attended four calls at various places. One shop was damaged at Borim after a tree collapsed. The mood of people was dampened as power restoration work continued for four hours and many were forced to perform Laxmi Poojan without power supply in panchayats areas including Bandora, Kavlem, Durbhat, Talavalim. However, after four hours at around 7.45 pm, all feeders were repaired and power supply was restored.
Pondaites appreciated the quick response of Electricity Department.
Meanwhile, Due to inclement weather – thunderstorm and lightning, conductor snapping, jumper openings have been reported at many places.

“Five feeders supplying power to Ponda were faulty due to jumper openings. Four have already been rectified. Restoration of the fifth is under progress. Hoping to restore at the earliest,” he added on late Thursday night.
