Two women were recently attacked by a helmet-clad man while riding their motor cycles near the Chandor ground, prompting police to launch an inquiry and locals to demand tight er patrolling on the dark stretch. Police said the first attack occurred when two women riding to gether were approached by a man on another two-wheeler who alleg edly grabbed at the pillion rider’s clothes. They man aged to steady the bike and escape. Minutes later, at the same spot, two oth er women were targeted in a similar manner. This time, the assailant pulled at one rider’s clothing, causing them to lose bal ance and crash. Both sus tained minor injuries. No formal complaint has been filed yet, but villagers have alerted the Maina-Curtorim Police Station, expressing con cern over women’s safety in the area. Officers said they are verifying the incidents and checking CCTV footage from near by houses and establish ments to trace the sus pect. Residents said the repeated attacks have caused fear among wom en riders who use the road regularly. They blamed poor lighting and lack of patrols for making the stretch unsafe after dark. “The motives of the assailant remain unclear, but the dangerous nature of the assaults has raised concerns about women’s safety. The police have been alerted,” said a local social worker. Villagers have urged authorities to improve lighting and maintain reg ular night patrols to pre vent a repeat of such inci dents.
