A garden parallel to the Miramar-Dona Paula road appears to be a private garden owned by a residential apartment but it belongs to the Corporation City of Panjim (CCP) but it is being neglected by them the Corporation.
Despite complaints, the CCP has not acted so far and not even erected a board displaying its ownership and the citizens are not aware it is a public place and can be used by public.
This is a quite big place which has a garden-cum-children’s-play space. According to CCP the fencing has been installed by the society of a residential apartment which is right behind the garden, which is illegal.
CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai said that they have not sought any permission from the Corporation for the fencing. But he said proper access has been kept open from the road side.
“A complaint has been received by CCP. I am personally going to inspect the site and accordingly action will be taken. I will also erect a board of CCP at the garden so that people will be also aware that it is a public garden”, Desai said.
Herald inspected the site after it received a copy of the complaint to CCP. It was found that the fencing has been installed and two gates from back side have been kept open in the garden area.
The overall structure and the illegal possession of this garden by the residential apartment has stopped the public from using it and in the absence of proper signage of CCP.
The complainant, Sachit Mauskar has written twice to the CCP complaining about the illegal fencing without proper permission of the Corporation.
“I have asked CCP to act against the illegality where the private entity is being involved in installing fencing for a public garden. It is completely used by the particular residential apartment as it belongs to them”, he said.
