PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday declined to stay the ongoing work of the road linked to an upcoming ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) project at Borim in Ponda taluka.
While hearing the public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition filed by the villagers of Borim, the State government sought a week’s time to file its reply in the matter.

The petitioners have alleged that the road work undertaken by the government was illegal as it involves hill cutting on No Development Zone (NDZ) slope. The government has contended that the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department has granted its permission for the work in 2019 and the Borim Village Panchayat also gave its permission in 2021 for the road work.
The villagers have been protesting against the ISKCON project and the road leading to the proposed project site, citing major environmental damage.
