Panaji, June 24: The High Court has directed the South Goa Superintendent of Police and the South Goa Collector to convene a meeting with officials of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) on July 6 to determine a date for the removal of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that was allegedly installed illegally on MPA-owned land at Sada.
The court issued the direction while hearing a matter concerning the unauthorised installation of the statue on port authority property.

During the proceedings, the Mormugao Port Authority informed the court that attempts to dismantle the statue on two earlier occasions could not be carried out as the required police protection and personnel were not made available.
In view of the situation, the High Court instructed the South Goa SP, the South Goa Collector and MPA officials to coordinate and finalise a suitable date for the removal operation, ensuring that adequate security arrangements are in place.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on July 14, when the court is expected to review the outcome of the meeting and the progress made in implementing its directions.
The case pertains to the installation of the statue on land belonging to the Mormugao Port Authority, with the court examining issues related to compliance with legal procedures and land ownership regulations.
