High-ranking officers transferred

PANJIM: In a major reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred three officers - Deputy

Inspectors General of Police Dr O P Mishra and Brahma Singh, and Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh to Delhi. In other transfers, North Collector Mihir Vardhan and sports secretary Keshav Chandra have been shifted out of the State. In the list of transfers of nearly 35 AGMUT cadre officers issued by undersecretary S K Chikkara on Friday, four IPS officers namely Sunil Garg (1992 batch), V Rengunathan (1997 batch), P Karunakaran (2004 batch) and Sindhu Pillai (2001), all presently posted in Delhi will take charge in Goa. In addition to this, the government will get six new IAS officers while Sports secretary Keshav Chandra, North Goa Collector Mihir Vardhan and Hage Batt have been transferred to another State. IAS officers Ajit Abhyankar, Dr Sharat Chouhan, S P Dixit, Nila Mohanan, Sachin Shinde and Shilpa Shinde will come to Goa.
Suicide victim’s father seeks justice
MARGAO: The father of deceased Veedeshri Parab has demanded that the police bring to book and punished those who provoked his daughter to commit suicide along with his granddaughter. Yeshwant Gauns told media after his statement was recorded at the Margao police station that the family should get justice in the case of their daughter’s death. Yeshwant, wife Laxmi and son, all residents of Valpoi appeared before the Margao police for recording of their statement in respect of the suicide of Vedeshri and the three-year-old daughter Yashvi, on July 17. The police have registered offence for harassment and torture against the in-laws of the deceased upon complaint by deceased’s mother. It may be recalled that  Vedeshri along with her minor daughter committed suicide by jumping off the Zuari bridge, Cortalim on July 15 and the bodies were found on  July 17 washed at  Odxeal beach, Dona Paula and Bambolim beach. 
Chorao assault accused still at large
CHORAO: The accused involved in the brutal assault on a tea shop owner in Chorao last Saturday night is yet to be arrested. Speaking to Herald, Old Goa PI Devendra Gad, who has taken charge as PI Sinari is on leave, said the suspect, who allegedly made the murderous attempt on Sunil Betkekar, is still absconding. “The police conducted search at the suspect’s residence, work place and his earlier work place at Canacona. We interrogated the culprit’s brother, who claimed that he is not aware where his brother is and his mobile phone is switched off,” informed PI Gad.
Male found dead in Margao
MARGAO: Margao police on July 17 recovered the body of an unknown male person, age about 45 years, found near Raviraj Hotel, Khareband in Margao. The same has been preserved at the morgue for identification. A case of unnatural dead under section  174 CrPC is registered and  PSI Melson Colaco is investigating. 
Section 144 during Assembly session
PANJIM: Ahead of a month-long Goa Assembly Budget session, beginning July 22, the the District Magistrate, North Goa, has issued an order under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, prohibiting morchas, dharnas and other forms of protest, within a radius of 500 meters from the Vidhan Sabha complex, Porvorim and also prohibiting assembly or meeting of five or more persons, carrying of firearms or weapons of offence such as lathis, swords, daggers or spears, burning of fire crackers at the venue, use of loudspeaker and shouting of slogans. Public servants on duty, bona fide marriage or funeral procession or such other special occasion are exempted from the restriction.       The assembly session will conclude on August 21.        The Congress party has already announced that it will take out a morcha on the Assembly complex on the first day of the session, wherein they will be presenting a charge-sheet against the Parrikar government, to Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar.
