PANJIM: The 2020-21 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) batch of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) created history with a pass percentage 99.72.

Just 67 students failed to clear the Class X as students were evaluated and promoted to Class XI going by the internal assessment conducted by the schools based on marks scored in the different exams during the academic year and performance at Class IX. Interestingly, only two girls are among those who failed to clear Class X.
In numbers, 23,900 Class X students were promoted of the 23,967 who had registered for the public examination 2021 with GBSHSE.
Due to the unprecedented situation arising due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the State, following directions from the government, GBSHSE had cancelled the Class X board examination and the students were assessed based on the objective criterion developed by the Board. Result committees across all 400 schools were formed to evaluate the students and prepare the result.
Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that the 99.72 pass percentage is the highest ever in the
history of Goa Board. Last year, 92.69 per cent students had cleared Board exams, while in 2019, it was 92.47 per cent.
As an annual trend, the results saw girls outshine boys with an overall passing percentage of 99.98 per cent with 10,954 getting promoted out of 10,956.
On the other hand, 12,946 boys cleared the assessment at a passing percentage of 99.5. A total of 13,011 boys had registered.
“Of the 67 students who could not make it, there are only two girls. The students were declared failed as they either did not appear for any of the tests or exams conducted by the school during the academic period or over non-submission of projects, etc,” Shetye said.
Tiswadi taluka reported a maximum of 16 students who failed, followed by 13 in Salcete, 12 in Bardez, 11 in Quepem, four each in Ponda and Mormugao, three in Bicholim, two in Sattari and one each in Canacona and Pernem. Sanguem and Dharbandora taluka reported cent per cent result.
Nearly 10,276 students scored between 60 to 80 per cent marks, while 7001 students obtained 46 to 59 per cent marks. There are 4,392 students who scored above 80 per cent.
Shetye said that there are 47 students who passed taking the benefit of NSQF, which is the 7th subject, and is offered across 90 secondary schools. In all 99.74 per cent students, of the total who appeared for NSQF subjects, cleared it.
“The sports marks were not taken into account this time,” he said, adding that the process of verification of marks and re-evaluation scheme will not be applicable, since the results are based on internal assessment.
The results saw cent per cent marks being scored by students in almost all subjects except Kannada, Arabic and French.
This is for the first time in the last two decades that Class X results have been announced before the Class XII, Shetye said.
