PANJIM: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has sought for anti-conversion legislation in Goa in the wake of a recent incident of “love jihad” reported in Ponda.

In a press release, Dr Manoj Solanki, HJS State Co-ordinator said, “Several incidents of “love jihad” have occurred in Goa in the past. In this context, the right wing organization has demanded for an Anti-Conversion law and its strict implementation to curb incidents of “love jihad” in Goa. A memorandum on the subject was submitted to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.”
“Apart from Hindu organisations, many Sikh and Christian organisations have taken a stand against “Love Jihad”. A suspect named Nawaz Saab Desai from Collem, Dharbandora, victimised a Hindu girl studying in Std X and sexually harassed her for five long years luring her to marriage. This is a grave incident which calls for a stringent solution to curb the conspiracy of “love jihad” in Goa,” states the press release.
The victim has already filed a complaint with the Ponda Police, which is under investigation.
In this regard, the HJS has demanded passing of Anti-Conversion Bill to curb “love jihad” in Goa; to take legal action against advertisements, movies, stage plays, books, articles, speeches promoting and propagating “love jihad” in the garb of social unity; to set up a special branch of police at the State and Centre to handle and investigate into the cases of Love Jihad.
The organisation has also sought registering all inter-faith marriages with the court only while also banning all madarassas and mosques found to promote such types of conversion with immediate effect.
