MARGAO: Hospicio authorities on Saturday have asked the PWD to inspect the retaining wall on the Holy Spirit cemetery side after a portion came crashing down last night.
Citizens raised apprehension that the remaining part of the wall may come down with heavy rains lashing the city. They have called for protective measures at the wall to ensure that it does not pose danger go the pedestrians and motorists using the main road leading to the hospital and Pajifond. While the authorities have cleared the debris towards the road side, the hospital authorities are now waiting for the municipal workers to lift it away from the site. “A look at the retaining wall indicates that it is very weak and might collapse any time. The authorities should act fast and prevent any untoward incident,” demanded a citizen Sanjeev Raiturcar.
He said the disaster management authority should step in immediately giving the limited resources at the disposal of the Hospicio hospital.
When contacted, Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Siona Gomes said the hospital has intimated the PWD officials to take preventive measures. “The PWD officials have inspected the wall and are expected to take measures to ensure the remaining portion of the wall does not collapse”, Dr Gomes said
