Hotel federation elects panel

The Federation of Small and Medium Hotels and Guest Houses (FSMHGH) in the State has elected its new committee to look into the interests of its members.
Effifiano Barretto was elected president of FSMHGH, while other members in the Executive Committee are Padmanath Nair, Edwin Barretto, John Rodrigues, Sumitra Egipsy, Anthony Cardozo, Edwin Fonseca and Antonio Jose de Souza.
The Federation later deliberated on different issues ranging from license fees, waiver from Goa State Pollution Control Board, classification of hotels into different categories and a white paper on tourism.
Giving in to the general view of the members, the newly elected committee of the Federation has decided to pursue with its demand for renewal of licenses for a minimum period of three years.
The Committee has also decided to put its demand to the State government.
for waiver from Goa State Pollution Control Board to operate under Air and Water Act for their small establishments.
The Federation will also seek a revision in the fee structure, classification of hotels in different categories and a white paper on tourism to the Ministry of Tourism.
The Federation is of the view that 95% of the tourism industry in the State relies on small and medium hotels and has hence felt that their demands needs o be addressed by the Ministry of Tourism.
Earlier, outgoing President Serafin Cota thanked all members for their support and co-operation and added that he had tried his best to provide relief to small hoteliers on water and electricity tariff, which was implemented in South Goa. He hoped that the new committee would try to implement the same in the North.
