The Opposition’s demand for CBI enquiry into “Police-Drug dealers nexus” yet again caused adjournment of the House on Tuesday. Last week too, the House was adjourned over the same issue following interruptions by the Opposition members.
Speaker Pratapsing Rane today adjourned the House until 2.30 pm, following protests by Opposition members demanding CBI enquiry into police-drug dealers nexus.
The Opposition members led by Manohar Parrikar started denouncing the government as Chief Minister Digambar Kamat defended Crime Branch during “Question Hour”.
While the Opposition members demanded that investigation into police-drug dealers nexus be handed over to CBI since, they claimed performance of the Crime Branch has been extremely poor, the chief minister contradicted saying Crime Branch has done a good job.
The case of police-drug dealers nexus is being investigated by Crime Branch. Mandrem MLA, Laxmikant Parsekar said during last three years, Crime Branch has got not one conviction. “It’s performance is zero,” he said further adding that if you want acquittal, the case has to be transferred to the Crime Branch.
However, Kamat said most of the cases of acquittal are matka cases. Acquittal is high in matka cases because witnesses turn hostile making the case weak and an amendment to Gambling Act has been sought as word “matka” is not defined under the Act.
Not satisfied with the government’s answer, the Opposition members started making noise and denouncing the government even as Speaker warned all to keep silence or else he will adjourn the House.
