PERNEM: A house jointly owned by Chandrakant and Krishna Ugvekar located at Harijan Wada, Uguem-Pernem gutted in fire, on Sunday.
According to the Pernem Fire Station, the control room received a call at 6.30 pm informing that a house has caught fire. Immediately, a team headed by Sub Officer Prashant Dhargalkar rushed to the spot.
Upon reaching, it was found that the owners and neighbours were trying to douse off the fire. First, the fire personnel rushed inside the house and moved the LPG cylinder to safety and then began fire fighting operation. It took around two hours to douse off the fire completely.
Household items such as two cupboards, two refrigerators, one cylinder, clothes, roof tiles etc were gutted. The owners claimed a loss of around Rs 3 lakh while the fire brigade team managed to save the property worth Rs 5 lakh.
The cause of fire is suspected to be due to short circuit. However, the station in-charge will be writing to the Electricity Department and Pernem Police to ascertain the exact cause of fire.
The Pernem Fire Station team headed by Sub Officer Dhargalkar comprised Driver Operator Vithal Parab, Fire Fighters Amol Parab, Amit Sawal, Sahadev Chadankar, Hawaldar Fatu Naik and Mayur Naik.
