PANJIM, SEPT 20
Amid bandh call given by the All Goa Union Against HSRP (AGUAH), the Department of Transport tried to allay the fears of the newspaper advertisements, saying it was issued only to clear the confusion amongst citizens.
The transporters were peeved at the advertisements in the newspapers issued by the department on the programme for fitting HSRP.
The transporters said that the minister played dirty trick by issuing advertisement after he had assured to keep the HSRP scheme pending till the report by the chief secretary led committee was submitted.
‘The advertisement was to clear the confusion and doubt in the minds of the people regarding HSRP,’ Director of Transport Arvind Lolienkar told Herald.
He said that many people had approached the department after the minister announced to go slow on the HSRP.
Further, he continued, ‘another thing which led to the department issuing advertisements was the duplication of plates.’
‘We have registered complaints with the North and South Goa superintendents of police against one Varun Motors, M/s I Costa Margao and another person from Vasco over duplication of HSRP,’ Lolienkar said.
Hence we issued the notice to make people aware that Shimnit Utsch was the only company approved by the government for fitting of HSRP, he added.
‘If people fit duplicate plates it would be a problem for them only in future If it becomes compulsory,’ the director said.
To a query Lolienkar said he was unaware of any strike call given by the AGUAH.
‘I am not aware of that but I think government will deal with it suitably,’ he said.
