PONDA: Hundreds of trees got uprooted and a number of power lines got snapped in the rains and cyclonic winds that lashed Talule in Bandora panchayat, on Wednesday night.
According to reports, local farmers suffered huge losses due to the uprooting of tress and the entire village plunged into darkness du the snapping of power lines. Some trees also crashed on houses. Two huge trees crashed on the house of one Anand Damodar Chari. Four electric poles were also broken in the heavy rains.
Besides Bandora, power outages and crashing of trees were reported in many others parts of Ponda taluka.
The fire personnel attended to several calls the whole day and cleared a no of trees off houses and roads. The electricity department personnel also worked to restore the power by erecting new power lines and poles till late evening.
PWD Minister Sudin Davlikar visited the affected places at Talule and Tariwada and assured to reconstruct and repair the house of Anand Chair, whose house was totally damaged in the tree fall.
