SANGUEM: The ambitious IIT project which was to come up at Sanguem seems to moving back to Canacona.
Though sources are not clear as to what went wrong for the project in Sanguem and the reason for the sudden change in the government decision to shift the project back to Canacona or elsewhere in the State.
As of now the ground work for IIT project which had commenced in Sanguem some twenty days ago have come to a grinding halt.
It is pertinent to note that since the past twenty days the survey department had began conducting survey operations to identify the land for the project in Sanguem.
However, the survey operations too have been halted.
Though the exact reason for the sudden stoppage of survey operations are not known, unconfirmed sources in the survey department claim the project to be likely to be shifted back to Canacona.
It may also be recalled that the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on the occasion of birthday celebration of Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar held last month had sounded the IIT project to be coming to Sanguem, the sudden decision to shift the project elsewhere in the State has shocked the people in Sanguem, who had eyed some development in this remote taluka after several decades.
The commissioning of the project would have brought some change in the outlook of Sanguem taluka, which has not seen any major development in the taluka either during BJP or Congress tenure.
