PONDA: The car of an Independent candidate, in race at Shiroda, was set on fire when she was campaigning door-to-door after parking the vehicle at Ame in Bethora, on Wednesday.
The candidate, Diya Shetkar, suffered nervous shock on seeing her car in flames. She has been admitted in Ponda sub-district hospital for treatment.
When Herald visited her in the hospital, she said setting her vehicle on fire might have been an attempt to murder her and demanded that the culprits be booked.
She suspected that the supporters of a particular political party candidate might have set her car on fire as that candidate was constantly pressurising her to withdraw her nomination, since the day she filed the same.
Ponda police recorded the statement of Shetkar in at the hospital and have launched an investigation into the incident.
Till late Wednesday evening it was unclear as to who was behind the arson attack of setting the vehicle on fire.
