Israel and the United States carried out fresh airstrikes on Iran on Wednesday, marking the fifth consecutive day of open hostilities between the two sides. Israeli officials said the strikes were aimed at elements of Iran’s leadership and security forces, while Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and positions across the region.
Residents in Tehran reported powerful explosions at dawn, with Iranian state television airing footage of a damaged building in the city centre. Strikes were also reported in Qom and other major urban areas. As fighter jets roared overhead, many civilians expressed uncertainty about whether to remain in the capital or seek safety elsewhere. A local shopkeeper, speaking anonymously, said fleeing the city would leave him without income or stability.

The Israeli military claimed that one of its F-35 fighter jets shot down an Iranian Air Force Yak-130 aircraft over Tehran. It also stated that air defence systems intercepted several incoming missiles, with explosions heard near Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state media announced that the farewell ceremony for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been postponed, with a revised schedule to be shared later.
