MARGAO: Citizens from Salcete cried foul over inordinate delays in the issuance of ration cards by the Civil Supplies Cell housed in the District Collectorate and other certificates by the Mamlatdar office on Tuesday.

Tuesday saw a serpentine queue of ration card holders and other applicants in the Mamlatdar office waiting for their turn to get an audience with the officials concerned.

Salcete Mamlatdar Triveni Velip was conspicuous by her absence in her chamber as she was holed up in the new District Collectorate building, while other staffers were preoccupied with the shifting process.

Former Margao Municipal councilor Ramdas Hazare told newsmen that the government should pay attention to the needs of the Salcete Civil Supplies office. He said ration card holders are being put to great hardships for no fault of theirs. “The government appeared more interested in the process of shifting to the new collectorate than in attending to routine problems,”  he said.
