PANJIM: Though the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has recommended hike in power tariffs by eight per cent, will the State government implement it or will keep it on hold remains to be seen.
According to Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes, the recommendations made by the JERC will be submitted to the State government for appropriate decision.

He said, “The power tariff was last hiked in 2019-2020 and that for last two financial years i.e 2020-21 and 2021-22, the tariffs were not revised due to two reasons, the COVID-19 pandemic and the budgetary provision made by the State government.”
Fernandes said that the power tariff was revised to overcome the losses because Goa is not a power producing State. “We buy power from Western and Southern grids,” he said.
The JERC is a statutory body responsible for regulation of the power sector in the State of Goa and all the Union Territories except Delhi. During the last hearing, the Commission had hinted about revising the power tariffs for all — domestic, commercial and industrial consumers — in the State.
