CALANGUTE: Indian journalists have a tough job, according to documentary filmmaker Vinay Shukla who screened his film ‘While We Watched’ at the Museum of Goa, Pilerne, recently.

Stating that journalism needs structural resolutions, Shukla pointed out that journalists have very poor rights, protection, pay, and contracts within and outside organisations. “We need a larger dialogue around journalists and what is happening to them. I deeply respect journalists for their efforts and the emotional labour they undergo,” he said.
His recent documentary ‘While We Watched’ is based on a senior journalist who was the editor of a national TV channel.
“I am deeply respectful of journalists, honestly. Their job is very, very hard. We don’t quite understand the emotional labour and the emotional toll that it takes on journalists to be able to witness tragedy every day, and try to find some justice for those who are affected by it,” said Shukla.
