MARGAO: Justice Filomeno Manuel Reis retires today after a stint of around 9 years. He was sworn in as Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 26, 2009.
During his tenure as a Judge, he has delivered and has been part of the bench in several Judgements regarding important public issues like establishment of SEZ’s in Goa, whether the Governor is subjected to RTI Act, Mapusa District Hospital, Margao Fair Issues, Ring Road in Margao, Upgrading of the facilities of all the Courts in Goa of the lower Judiciary, Traffic Issues, Environmental Issues, Marriott’s Case, Aldeia de Goa, Encroachment of Serula Comunidade, Golf Course by Leading Hotels, Elections of Goa Cricket Association as well as decided various aspects and concepts of civil law including criminal laws as well as succession laws as well as local laws like Mundkar and Tenancy laws prevailing in the State of Goa.
He has disposed of more than 16,000 cases as a Judge of the Bombay High Court which includes 9,996 civil cases and 831 criminal cases at the High Court of Bombay at Goa. He has been the Executive Chairman of the Goa Legal Services Authority from the year 2013.
Justice Reis enrolled as an advocate on August 14, 1981 and practiced in civil and criminal Courts in the State of Goa and before High Court of Bombay, Goa Bench, in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional and Company matters for 26 years and specialized in Civil Law before being appointed as a High Court Judge. He was part-time lecturer at Kare Law College from 1994 to 1996. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 26, 2009.
