MARGAO/MAPUSA: Seven persons have filed their nominations for the by-elections to the Curtorim and Nuvem Zilla Panchayat constituencies, of whom only two candidates are sponsored by political parties while the rest are Independents.
And three field nominations for the Calangute Zilla constituency in North Goa, onTuesday.
In Curtorim there is a visible split in MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco camp as his supporters are divided in supporting two different candidates. While one section is supporting Moreno Rebello who is the official Congress candidate, others are supporting Dionisio Joao Sardinha who filed his nomination as an Independent.
The other two in the fray in Curtorim are Conceicao Dias and Mrs Rudolfina Mascarenhas, both as Independents. Incidentally, Rudolfina Mascarenhas is from Chandor which is actually part of Guirdolim ZP constituency.
In Nuvem, three persons filed their nominations and they are former Sarpanch Mario Christopher Reuben Costa as a Congress candidate, Delisha Pereira Costa as the dummy Congress candidate and Marcus Maria Pereira as an Independent.
These by-elections were necessitated following the resignations by Clafasio Dias and Wilfred D’Sa who have been elected as MLAs from Cuncolim and Nuvem assembly constituencies, respectively.
The three candidates who filed their nominations for Calangute are Dattaprasad Dabholkar from BJP, Joy Fernandes from Congress Party and Demel Telis, an Independent.
Commenting on his party’s nominee, Calangute BJP MLA Michael Lobo said, “This time we have nominated a young candidate for Calangute constituency who will work for the development of the constituency by reducing the work pressure on the panchayats as well as the MLA.”
