KA renovation project will be completed in 10 months: CM

Foundation stone for Kala Academy’s structural strengthening and renovation laid; CM assures the work will be undertaken without interfering with the basic structure

PANJIM: The foundation stone for structural strengthening and renovation of Kala Academy, at an approximate cost of Rs 50 crore, was laid on Monday, wherein the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant assured that the work would be undertaken without interfering with the basic structure.

Addressing the gathering, Sawant said that the renovation project will be completed in a stipulated time period of ten months. He said that the State-of-the Art building will be upgraded, renovated ensuring quality work without touching to its basic structure.

“The iconic structure will not be demolished and the renovation would be undertaken without interfering with the basic structure. We want to renovate and strengthen the building complex,” he said. 

The Public Works Department (PWD) is the nodal agency for implementing the project, which will involve structural repair and allied civil works, electric works, plumbing, drainage system, acoustic work among other intervention. The project had received Cabinet nod during its meeting held in March. 

Sawant said Kala Academy is a place with sanctity which produces artistes of international calibre. “The artistes who are excelling in the country and outside have brought laurels to Goa,” he said.

Sawant said as Government celebrates diamond jubilee year of Goa Liberation, it intends to become self reliant in every field of human endeavour. 

Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude said Kala Academy is place with sanctity for the artiste folk. This is the place which creates artistes of international repute. 

Minister urged the artistes as well as other stakeholders and general public to provide suggestions to the Government with regards to the renovation works that need to be taken to upgrade Kala Academy.
