Residents of Pedda, Khareband, Sirvodem, Sarvodem, Chichal, Calcondem and Malbhat (Apollo Hospital) have been facing acute water shortage without uttering a word for the last two years.
People have got tired and have decided to fight for water. Earlier on Thursday, Councillor Ketan Kurtarkar and RTI Activist Sriram Raiturkar had taken an initiative to help the people and had written to the Executive Engineer of the PWD handling JICA work.
On Friday, Margao MLA and former chief minister Kamat held a meeting to solve the public grievance and discussed the matter threadbare with them.
Speaking to media, Digambar Kamat said, “Some areas have been getting irregular water supply due to breakdowns and last night the breakdowns were repaired. It has also been brought to our notice that some persons have been tampering with the water valves in Margao area and now the valves would be locked.”
Kamat said that a new 600 diameter water pipeline would solve the problem and people would get good water pressure.
Kamat said, “Water supply is becoming a serious problem and Councillors are agitated over the issue. The Councillors want to lead a morcha to the department, but we have decided to take corrective measures so that there is no problem recurring again.”
