Karonzol locals file complaint against forest official for gun fire threat

VALPOI: The villagers of Karonzol in Sattari on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Valpoi Police against a forest official for threatening them by firing three rounds in the air during their arguments.

According to sources, the Goa Forest Department DCF Tejaswini along with other officials went on a visit to Karonzol village forest in the afternoon.

During their visit, the forest officials allegedly misbehaved with an old woman. The woman shared the incident with the other villagers.

Later, the officials were stopped by the villagers who had gathered on the road and questioned the officials about their conduct.

This sparked an argument when the forest officials refused to answer.

The villagers claimed that during the argument, one of the forest officials pulled out his gun and fired three rounds in the air.

Meanwhile, environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar alleged that deforestation has been going on at an alarming rate in Karonzol village wherein three huge trees were felled recently. The forest officials after enquiring about the same with the villagers resulted in the confrontation.
