VALPOI: The 50-year-old Government High School at Keri, Sattari has no English teacher for the past two years. According to sources, the English teacher passed away two years ago and the post is still vacant till date.
The school management had met the Chief minister and the Director of Education and had submitted a memorandum regarding the same. The Director of Education in its reply to the school management had informed that he would depute a teacher. But till date, there is no teacher.
The school has around 400 students and parents feel that the absence of an English teacher will affect their children’s studies. This is the lone high school in Keri Panchayat.
“Besides the English teacher’s post which has been lying vacant for two years, two more posts of teachers are yet to be filled and on account of this, our studies have been affected,” the students complained.
“The level of education in our high school has been low for several years due to the vacant posts. Our village school needs quality teachers,” says Ramdas Shetkar, a Keri resident.
“We have met the Chief Minister and the Director of Education several times and have submitted a memorandum. Each time they assure us that they will provide us with a teacher. But till date, there is no sign of a teacher. The Director of Education too has failed to provide a teacher for school on a lecture basis, complained PTA chairman Chandrakant Gawas.
