PANJIM: Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has alleged the involvement of some senior police officials in the drug nexus and is set to submit the names to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in the next few days.
“The drug scenario which exists, unless there is blessings from tainted police officers, cannot happen,” Khuante said. “I would not like to make any charge at this point of time but the cases that have come to my notice will put up before Chief Minister for action,” he added.
Khaunte said, “I have some fair idea about involvement of certain DySPs, PIs or PSIs in the trade.” He said that in his constituency too, there are few pockets where the sale of drugs takes place.
The Minister said that following directions from the Chief Minister, he has drafted a detailed paper pointing out the instances and possible involvement of those and this will be submitted to the Chief Minister in the next couple of days.
“MLAs are charging, people are charging, there is something behind this,” he commented.
Following repeated allegations by MLAs from the ruling dispensation of a police-drug peddler nexus in the State, the Chief Minister in a letter to all MLAs directed them to desist from making statements which are demoralising to the police force. He had asked MLAs to submit the names of police officials, if they come of their involvement.
