MARGAO: Land filling for the construction of the Nuvem bypass kicked up yet another row on Tuesday with locals claiming that unscrupulous elements dumped trucks load of garbage along with mud on Tuesday.
A flying squad, besides a police team rushed to the Nuvem bypass and stopped the work for some time in view of the complaints that garbage was mixed with mud and dumped along the bypass alignment.
Environmentalist Clinton Vaz, who along with others rushed to the spot upon hearing the news, said that he was shocked to find a vehicle approach the bypass to unload waste. “After finding that the activity has been caught red handed, the truck went back to the source, where we found mound of garbage dumped at the site,” Clinton said.
Contractor Cleofacio Dias told the district Collector that an unknown vehicle might have dumped a pick-up load of waste at the bypass construction taking advantage of the absence of workers during lunch time. “My workers complained that the waste was emitting foul odour and it appears that someone might have dumped garbage waste at the site,” Dias said.
