PANJIM: After the government formally notifying retired IAS officer Leena Mehendale as the new chief information commissioner (CIC) for Goa, sources said that she has accepted the offer.
Her order had stated that Mehendale is to hold office for a five years term from the date on which she assumes office or till she attains the age of 65, whichever is earlier.
However, the future is still uncertain after the Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court recently issued a notice to the Goa government on a plea arguing that the appointment of Mehendale as the chief information commissioner was illegal. The petitioner had alleged that Mehendale did not have a law degree as claimed by her.
Mehendale, a retired IAS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, was selected for the post on September 3.
