Locals of Calangute and Candolim noticed a ‘Parra Citizens Forum’ garbage truck parked on the main road and they were under the impression that the local panchayats had stopped the garbage truck from dumping garbage in the village.
The issue was laid to rest after Calangute MLA Michael Lobo arrived at the site to commence the cleanliness drive on the borders of Calangute-Candolim.
The ‘Swachh Bharat Nital Goem’ drive took off from the borders of Calangute-Candolim as Lobo along with BJP cadres collected waste scattered all along the road leading to Candolim. The collected waste was later disposed off in the said garbage truck. A large number of locals took part in the drive.
Earlier briefing media persons at the site Lobo said, “If we keep our villages clean, foreign tourists will not shy away from coming to Goa. We should keep all our roads, internal and main, clean and villages free from garbage,” he said.
