As the calendar inches closer to the much-awaited Festival
of Lights, the city is brimming with anticipation and excitement, with
residents of all backgrounds and ages actively involved in preparing for the
grand celebration.
Laxmi Pinge, a 71-year-old lady from Merces, has been
igniting the spirit of Diwali with her incredible talent. Laxmi, the talented
artisan known for her beautifully handcrafted Akash Kandils, has been into this
business for almost 56 years.
Every year, as Diwali approaches, Laxmi’s workshop, buzzes
with activity. The workshop is adorned with vibrant papers, Lantern Skeletons,
and the tools of her trade. With the help of her daughter-in-law, Laxmi manages
to make more than 250 Akash Kandils every year and is taking forward her
husband’s legacy. Further she said that it takes more than a month to make 250
Akash Kandils.
As the festival of lights approaches, the city eagerly
awaits the radiant spectacle of Laxmi’s Akash Kandil to light up once more. Her
artistry not only brightens the houses but also inspires everyone to keep the
spirit of Diwali alive with love, dedication, and creativity. Laxmi Pinge, with
her art, talent and dedication, is a true beacon of light.
