VALPOI: Movacho guno in Sonal village is a much sought after picnic spot by locals and domestic tourists. However, the visitors who flock to this place do not bother to keep it clean and secure for others to enjoy an outing there.
Over the years, the place has turned into a garbage dump as the picnickers have been throwing waste and liquor bottles all around the place.
Taking note of this, Sonal villagers and Valpoi police carried out a cleanliness drive on Sunday to restore the place to its pristine beauty.
“Broken liquor bottles have been thrown all around this place making it difficult for the local villagers to go for a picnic there. Therefore, we have been demanding the government to stop tourists from visiting this place. The domestic tourists lack civic sense; they even threaten us when we request them not to throw waste and liquor bottles at the place,” complained Ulhas Gaonkar, a villager.
“Our panchayat and Valpoi police station are helping us in keeping the place clean and secure. We have asked the panchayat and Valpoi police station to erect a gate on the road to Movacho guno and appoint a watchman to keep the place clean and secure,” said Ramrao Rane, another villager.
Police Sub Inspector Gaurish Malik informed that the Valpoi police personnel had, on the request of Sonal villagers, carried out a cleanliness drive on Sunday.
