The heavy rains exposed the Electricity department’s functioning in Salcete. People complained that employees ignored calls made by them.
Residents of Benaulim said that when they asked for the reason for delay in restoring power, staff at the sub-station said they are understaffed. It is also known that the staff in the village sub-station don’t receive their salaries on time and hence they don’t work for too long. “Nobody is bothered to answer a call and get the problem solved, we have to pray and plead for the service for which we pay hefty sums,” a local said.
Benaulim MLA Caetano (Caitu) Silva came to the spot and pacified the people. “I will make a demand to take up the work of restoration and maintenance of the lines on a priority and make sure there are no power cuts,” Silva said.
Margao has also been suffering badly due to frequent power cuts over the last two days. “The town has underground electricity cabling but power fluctuations still occur. Recently, Raia and Davorlim villagers too had resorted to gherao their substation in charge for a similar case of loss of power and the ignorance of the employees.
