The State will have to wait till next session of the Goa Assembly to see the progress in constituting Lokayukta. “The government will try to introduce Lokayukta Bill in next Session of the Goa Assembly,” Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said on the floor of the House during ‘Question Hour’ on Wednesday.
The chief minister was responding to a question tabled by Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza seeking to know the exact status of Lokayukta Bill.
The chief minister told the House that the Central government has raised fresh queries and it is being re-examined by the government.
“The Government of India has advised that it would be appropriate if the proposed Bill is withdrawn as it suffers from legal infirmity. However, the issue is presently under consideration of the government,” Kamat stated.
The Goa Assembly had approved the Bill on January 25, 2007 and was sent for assent of the Governor on August 11, 2007.
It was forwarded to the Central Government on October 12, 2007.
