PANJIM: Mahashivratri the grand night when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married was celebrated with great devotion all over Goa.
It is one of the holiest festival in Hinduism, marking a remembrance of “overcoming darkness and ignorance” in life and the world. It is celebrated by fasting, chanting, meditating, and visiting temples. Ardent devotees stay awake throughout this night. Others visit one of the Shiva temples or go on a pilgrimage to the Jyotirlingams.

Mahashivratri was celebrated at Shri Shankar Devastan in Taliegao on Wednesday with devotion and enthusiasm. Hundred of devotees visited the temple to pay obeisance of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
At Fatorda, 4000 devotees thronged the Damodar Ling Temple on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The devotees celebrated Mahashivratri with devotion and joy beginning Wednesday morning.

The festival of ‘Mahashivratri’ was celebrated with great fervour and grandeur at Lord Sapteshwar-Mandrem, Mulvir temple-Pernem and Linga Mahadev-Paliem, on Wednesday. Large crowd of devotees queued up to get a ‘darshan’ of Lord Shiva offered their obeisance at his feet on this auspicious occasion in these temples. The divine night is dedicated for the worship of lord Shiva.
Maha Shivaratri was celebrated with great pomp and devotion at Mahadev temple in Morjim. Devotees thronged to temple early morning to seek blessings form the Lord. Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival that honors god Shiva. It is celebrated by fasting, chanting, meditating, and visiting temples.
The celebrations, prayers and devotion went on right into the night.
