MARGAO: The persistent effort of the youth of Maina has paid off. The Sarpanch of Sao Jose De Areal, Julio Monteiro, on Tuesday, got the road in Ramnagri cleaned of heaps of garbage. The water-logged underground tanks which were left by JICA contractors were also filled. Half the garbage removal work was completed on Tuesday and the remaining will be done by Thursday. Sadly, the local panch Christalina Rodrigues stayed away yet again. The youth had intensified their vigilance since the last 8 days and also had two men arrested on Monday for dumping garbage.
The garbage which had been in Ramnagri was cleaned on Tuesday after 20 years of hardships. The youth of Dongri Maina who have named themselves as ‘Maina Youth’ have made persistent efforts to get the area cleaned.
“On Tuesday the land owner of Nessai Oxygen Factory gave us the green signal to dig two huge pits and bury the garbage in it. “The sarpanch of Sao Jose De Areal has sent notices to all the illegal pan shops and shops which sell guthkha and pan to stop the same immediately. We congratulate the sarpanch of Sao Jose De Areal for this move,” said Joao.
