The Range Forest Officer of Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary has arrested Gurudas Mahadev Kuskekar from Haldikune, Netravali, for illegally using electrocution to kill animals along the sanctuary’s border.
Authorities said the accused had created a direct electrical connection using a hook from the main 11kV power line passing through his property, posing severe risks to both wildlife and humans. Forest officials conducting routine patrols discovered the dangerous setup and noted that they themselves could have been electrocuted while inspecting the area.
The Forest Department has registered offences under Sections 9 and 32 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and Gurudas Mahadev Kuskekar has been arrested and will be produced in court for further legal proceedings.
Officials also highlighted that the method of illegal electrocution is similar to a tragic incident in Sivsurem, where two brothers lost their lives after coming in contact with a live electric line set up in the same manner.
The Forest Department reiterated its commitment to protecting wildlife and preventing such hazardous practices, urging locals to report any suspicious activities.
