VASCO: Vasco Police on Tuesday arrested a man on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
According Vasco Police, they received a call from some person in Mangor-Vasco stating that one man was forcibly taking a girl along with him. Police rushed to the site and detained the accused.
Police said the girl’s mother, who claims to be the wife of the accused, later filed a police complaint stating that the accused had sexually assaulted her daughter.
Police further informed that during interrogation, the accused revealed that on February 24, he had sexually assaulted the girl behind the bushes near the Pernem Railway Station.
Vasco Police have registered an offence under Section 376 IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and has handed over the victim and accused and referred the case to Pernem Police station.
According to sources, the girl along with her mother were working as labourers at a construction site in Pernem and when the contractor came to know about the problem, he took them to Vasco and left them at their relatives’ place in Mangor.
Sources further added that when the accused learnt that the victim and her mother were shifted to Vasco on Tuesday morning, the accused went to Mangor and tried to forcibly take the girl along with him.
However, the villagers gave him a sound trashing before handing him over to Vasco Police.
