PORVORIM/BICHOLIM: In a shocking incident, a police sub-inspector recently deputed at Mapusa has been charged with the sexual assault of his 19-year-old niece since January at Mapusa.
The PSI is reported to be absconding after a complaint was filed against him by the girl’s mother on Monday.
In her complaint to the Mapusa police, the girl’s mother stated that her daughter had been residing with her brother-in-law since the last one year and alleged that he had been sexually assaulting her daughter during the absence of his wife, from January till date.
According to Mapusa Police, the PSI was recently transferred from another police station in North Goa to Mapusa, but is yet to take charge at Mapusa.
The girl’s mother stated that the PSI would sexually assault her daughter when his wife ~ who is also a cop but employed with the Maharashtra police ~ was not at home while on night duty.
When the PSI’s wife returned home on Sunday evening, she found a suicide note reportedly written by the girl, stating that she had left the house to end her life.
The wife immediately alerted her sister in Maharashtra and narrated the situation. A search was conducted and the girl was located along the Mandovi Bridge on Monday morning.
Police said the victim girl has been referred to Goa Medical College Hospital, Bambolim, for a medical examination. Mapusa Police have registered various offences against the accused cop under Sections 354, 509, 376, 506 and 306 of Indian Penal Code.
While the girl’s mother has demanded justice for her daughter in the heinous crime, an NGO has claimed that the girl had tried to end her life on previous occasions as well.
According to sources, the wife of the accused cop has now taken the step to support the victim against her husband.
When contacted, a senior police official confirmed that the accused PSI had been relieved from one police station in North Goa to join his new posting at Mapusa.
“Following the transfer order, we had relieved him on August 4, but he was on leave from August 2 and it could be that he has not yet joined duty at Mapusa. We do not know the exact reason for this,” said the police official.
