Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar will flag off the float parade on Sunday February 15 at 3 pm in the presence of Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, RDA Minister Mickky Pacheco.
Addressing the media in the presence of MMC Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello and Councillors, Chairman of the Committee Arthur D’Silva said carnival will be celebrated with traditional Intruz in the commercial capital. As part of traditional Intruz, the Civic body will hold Khell Tiatr staged by various khell groups in all the 20 municipal wards.
“The Queen Momo will accompany King Momo and his entourage all along the float parade. As per police instructions for security reasons, all floats participating in the float parade will be screened and have to undergo security check,” he said, while urging the participating floats to report at the starting point at Holy Spirit Church square before 11 am and cooperate with volunteers and police.
MMC Chief Officer Naveen S L said that Civic body will play its due role in the organisation of the carnival. He said though there is not threat perception, security arrangements will be strengthened during the festivities.
Special programs lining up February 16 includes music by famous bands like Pure Magic, Brothers in Arms, Konkani musical show by Jr Reagan and Coney M and troupe, songs of Lorna by Vruta Karmali, Kingfisher Voice of Goa fame (Sabino Dias), Springbok African Acrobats from Tanzania, Charisma show, Fancy dress etc.
Replying to a question, Arthur said the government has promised funds to the tune of Rs 20 lakh, but hastened to add that the funds will be inadequate and the Committee will raise the required money through donations.
