MARGAO: Garbage in Margao was not collected on Sunday and remained till Monday as several labourers and workers responsible for collecting it were absent for work on account of Diwali.
The market vendors across Margao and SGPDA market had to make way from the garbage and hold Laxmi Pujan.
The main market areas of Sadekar lane, police station, SGPDA Market, Gandhi Market, New Market, Konkan Railway Station and other areas were full of garbage.
This garbage is daily collected by the daily wage workers. However, many of them chose not to work on Diwali Day as a result there was lot of garbage piled up.
On Monday, the Margao Municipal Council had a tough time in collecting it. Many important areas were left out due to lack of support infra. The MMC blamed for the garbage coming from non-municipal areas.
The MMC also revealed that they are planning to take more workers for collection of garbage effectively. However, it could be seen that the streamlining of existing infrastructure would have helped to the work out timely collection of garbage in the municipal areas.
Meanwhile, the wait for the bio-incinerators, which the Chief Minister had announced earlier, is over. The bio-incinerators are the most required for Margao Municipal Council so that the black spots, which are being cleaned but getting tonnes of garbage back again and again, can be removed once and for all.
