MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Employees Association on Tuesday alleged that there was government pressure on the authorities not to take action against Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council in the alleged sexual harassment case filed against him.

Anil Shirodkar, president of Margao Municipal Employees Association said that it’s been two months for the complaint having filed but no action has been initiated till date.
The union had later given a complaint to the Director of Municipal Administration, Chief Secretary and Urban Development Secretary demanding inquiry into the alleged Chief Officer’s action. Even after sending reminder no action has been taken.
“Is there some pressure on the authorities not to take action? The audio clip revealed that a former councillor has named a former MLA and said that they are willing to compromise the matter by speaking to the Chief Minister. Is there pressure from the Chief Minister to go slow in the case?” asked Anil.
“There are three co-opted members of the council who are close to the Fatorda, Margao and Curtorim MLAs and all are silent on the matter,” pointed out Anil.
He demanded that the Chief Officer be immediately suspended and inquire into the matter failing to which the Union will not care about the Section 144 and COVID-19 lockdown to do what is best for the victim.
