MARGAO: Goa Vikas Party supremo Mickky Pacheco on Monday slammed the government for its lack of policies in tackling waste generated in hotels and industrial estates.
After inspecting the IDC acquired land at Loutolim village on Monday evening along with Loutolim Sarpanch Maria Monteiro, panchayat members and citizens, a visibly agitated Pacheco said the IDC should protect its acquired land from being converted into a waste dumping ground.
He disclosed plans to write a letter to the IDC and the Goa State Pollution Control Board on the factual situation at the IDC acquired land in Loutolim village. “After GSPCB stopped piggeries from lifting away hotel waste, the waste is now finding its way to the IDC land. Besides, there was industrial waste dumped in the property. Has the government no policies as far as waste problem is concerned,” Pacheco asked.
He pointed out that the waste from the area finds its way into the water spring at Carvotta, contaminating the water and demanded action. “I have drafted the letters to the IDC and GSPCB and the same will be despatched by tomorrow,” he said.
