PONDA: The Goa Mining People`s Front (GMPF), which had demanded Ordinance for immediate restart of mining, has decided to stage dharna in Delhi and submit a memorandum to the prime minister.
GMPF has also decided to lead a morcha to Goa Assembly and hold a dharna at Azad Maidan in Panjim from June 11.
On Friday at a public meeting held at Usgao, the mining dependents declared to launch an indefinite dharna from June 4, however, they postponed it to June 11 after BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral asked for time up to June 7 to find a solution to restart mining in Goa.
Addressing the media on Saturday, GMPF leader Puthi Gaonkar warned that if no solution is found by June 7, then from June 11 onwards, the mining dependents would hold an indefinite dharna at Azad Maidan protesting the government’s failure to restart mining.
“Before that, a silent march of mining dependents will commence from KTC Bus stand at Panjim and reach Azad Maidan and then the agitation will continue till mining recommences in Goa. Besides, there will also be regular dharna agitations at junctions at Sanquelim, Dharbandora and Savordem,” Gaonkar informed.
“The mining dependents will also lead a huge morcha to Goa Assembly during its monsoon session. This morcha will be peaceful and will be held with the permission of the government,” he said.
Gaonkar informed that the mining dependents have drafted a memorandum for Prime Minister Narendra Modhi and the same has been signed by 23 MLAs from Goa so far. The memorandum will also contain the signatures of more than a lakh of mining dependents.
“Before submitting the memorandum to the prime minister, the mining dependents will also stage a dharna at Delhi for three days,” he added.
