MARGAO: A landslip occurred at Pajifond, Margao, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to Gil Souza, the Station Fire Officer at Margao, there are two buildings in the vicinity—one with six floors and the other with three floors. The family residing on the ground floor of the three-story building was the most affected by the landslide.

He explained that landslides occurred on either side of both buildings, causing large chunks of mud to collapse and spill onto the road. As a precautionary measure, one family in the three-story building was evacuated from their home.
Souza said that they received information about the landslide at 4.45 pm on Saturday. The landslide occurred behind Horizon Hospital, near Sapna Valley building, said Souza. Firefighters and other crew members promptly visited the site, along with staff from the South Goa Collector’s office, including the Talathi and Deputy Collector. The area where the mud has accumulated has been covered with plastic to prevent further damage to the buildings. The crew members concluded their work and left the site by 8 pm.
Meanwhile, a tree fell on the compound wall of a college and the shed of a house at Gogol, Fatorda. The estimated loss was Rs 30,000, while property worth Rs 50,000 was preserved.
In light of recent landslides at Marlem-Borda that crushed a retaining wall and caused extensive damage to multiple apartments, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and the South Goa District Collector conducted an inspection. They assured affected residents that the government would assist them under the Disaster Management Act.
The local councillor and various other government officials were also present during the inspection.
