The sculpture of fish in front of the St Alex Church, Calangute has been damaged by miscreants barely a month after it was inaugurated.
The miscreants broke the tail and fins of the fish sculpture, which had been erected by the Calangute panchayat and Hotel Goan Heritage.
The Calangute panchayat is in the process of filing a police report in this connection.
The sculpture, displaying the identity of the village, at the entry point of Calangute which was a dream project of the Calangute panchayat and had been financed by Hotel Goan Heritage, Calangute, at an estimated cost of Rs 7 lakh.
The sculpture was inaugurated on May 11 by Calangute Sarpanch Laxman Parab Palyekar, who incidentally had celebrated his birthday on the same day.
Speaking to Herald, former sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said a few disgruntled elements are obstructing developmental activities in Calangute.
“The fish sculpture, which we had constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7 lakh and sponsored by Hotel Goan Heritage, Calangute, has been broken. We try to bring in development for our village, but some disgruntled elements are trying to create problems for us,” Sequeira added.
