MARGAO: Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro announced the desilting of the River Sal tributary from Ravanfond bridge to Mandopa bridge. This River Sal tributary has been silted with garbage, construction waste, sewage, aquatic plants and others.
Luizinho informed that the work of Rs. 6.5 lakh will possibly take time to complete. He said, “This is an important work to begin but I am of an opinion that it won’t work this way. I feel there needs to be a long term as well as short term plan to keep the Sal free from the pollution”.
He went on to allege that panchayats of Aquem Baixo, Davorlim, Navelim and Rumdamol have for the last 10 to 15 years ignored the river, the fall out of which the width of the river has been reduced and dumping of garbage has been least controlled by the local body.
He urged the Government to take steps to stop garbage dumping into the rivers and put the responsibility on the panchayats.
