VASCO: Deputy Collector of Mormugao Sachin Dessai on Monday held at joint review meeting with Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and some Mormugao Municipal Councillors to assess the overall prevailing situation in the containment zone at Mangor Hill.
Speaking to Herald, Deputy Collector informed that during the meeting issues such as improvement in supply of essential items to the households from the containment zone came up. Suggestions were put forth after discussion on how to improve the situation in the area.

“We have decided that the essential goods should reach to the people inside the containment zone whenever need arises,” said Dessai.
“It was also observed that the people from all age group need medicines. Therefore it was decided to allow two pharmacies from the buffer zone to keep it open for three hours during the day time. The people from the containment zone will have to remain inside their area and the medicines will be supplied to them by the volunteers after providing the prescriptions,” he added.
Dessai also informed that one bank ATM has been made operational. People can go and take benefit of this facility. We are also in talks with one private bank which will also likely to replenish its ATM with cash which will further help the people from the buffer zone.
When asked about the status of realignment of the Containment zone, Deputy Collector informed that the Vasco MLA and the people from Bada-Mangor wanted it to be realigned.
“Further it was also heard that people from Bada-Mangor Hill wanted the lane, where seven COVID cases which were found positive recently during random testing, to be declared micro containment zone excluding the other part of Bada. All such demands are being forwarded and these are being screened by the higher authorities,” Dessai informed.
