VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldhana has instructed Health Officer of Cortalim Public Health Centre to investigate the reasons for the rise in cancer cases in Simpal which was recently highlighted by an AAP leader.
AAP leader Patricia Fernandes had recently complained to the MLA that cancer cases were on the rise in Simpal after the installation of a mobile tower there in 2014. The AAP leader had urged the MLA to investigate whether the radiation from the mobile tower was responsible for the rise in cancer cases in Simpal.
Responding to the concern of the AAP leader, Saldhana said that she was happy that Fernandes expressed concern over the rise in cancer cases at the Simpal ward of Sancoale.
“The issue has been conveyed to Dr Jose D’Sa, the Director of Directorate of Health Services and Dr Soccor Quadros, the Health Officer at Cortalim PHC. The process to study the situation and the possible cause for the high number of cancer case in Simpal ward of has started,” she said.
“Presently, the health officer is conducting a house to house survey. This issue has also been addressed to Minister of Health Vishwajit Rane, vide letter dated June 28, 2019, with a copy to Directorate of Health Services,” Saldhana said.
She also revealed that a medical camp for detection of cancer in the area would be conducted shortly through the Directorate of Health Services as per my discussion with Dr D’Sa last Monday.
“All measures to study the situation and provide relief to the villagers are being addressed,” Saldanha added.
